Riverbanks Zoo
Project Snapshot
1. Zoo-Side Walkthrough & Family-Flow Planning
We began with a walkthrough of the splash pad zones inside Waterfall Junction, reviewing how families enter, circulate, and cluster around the play features. With a high-visibility, family-forward environment in mind, we planned the work to protect surrounding finishes and keep the experience clear and safe.
2. Prep Built for Constant Splash + Foot Traffic
Splash pad decks take a unique beating—continuous spray, sunscreen, minerals, and nonstop kid traffic. We focused on getting the substrate truly ready for a long-lasting system by creating a clean, consistent foundation before any surfacing was installed.
3. Protect Features & Keep the Area Clean
We protected adjacent edges, drains, and nearby fixtures to keep transitions crisp and the area tidy. Because the splash zones sit in a public attraction setting, jobsite cleanliness and controlled boundaries were treated as part of the finished “guest experience,” not an afterthought.
4. Bond System for Wet/Dry Cycling
A high-performance primer/bond step was applied to secure adhesion between the base and the new rubber surface. This layer is especially important in splash environments where the deck is constantly cycling between saturated and dry.
5. Slip-Resistant Surfacing for Play Zones
The rubber surfacing system was hand-troweled to the specified thickness/texture to support confident traction while staying comfortable underfoot—ideal for barefoot play, high spray, and fast movement around water features.
6. Detail Work + Reopen Readiness
We refined edges and tie-ins for a seamless look and reliable water flow, then completed a final safety/consistency check before turnover. Closeout included care guidance and reopening readiness aligned to a family-focused attraction environment.
