Why Rubber for Municipal Parks?

Safer, more inclusive public spaces

Textured, slip-resistant rubber helps in rain and splash zones and feels better underfoot. Seamless transitions are friendlier for wheels (strollers, mobility devices) and reduce trip-prone patchwork.

Built for seasons and steady traffic

UV-stable color, weather resistance, and easy cleaning stand up to sun, freeze–thaw, food spills, and daily footfall. When touch-ups are needed, they’re localized—no full tear-outs—keeping life-cycle costs predictable.

Minimal disruption to programs

Many areas can be resurfaced over existing concrete/asphalt and scheduled in phases or off-hours. Installs are low-noise and tidy—ideal around events, leagues, and weekend crowds.

Before & After

Before
Cracked, patchy hardscape that runs hot in the sun, puddles after storms, and shows mismatched repairs—leading to complaints and frequent call-outs.

After
A unified, slip-resistant surface that feels cooler, cleans quickly, and guides foot traffic with clear edges and color accents—so plazas and paths look intentional and stay easy to maintain.

How it's installed

1. Site Walk + Public Access Planning – We begin with a site walkthrough to confirm scope, measurements, drainage flow, and how the public moves through the space. We coordinate access routes, staging, and (when needed) a phasing plan so the park can remain usable and closures are clear and well-managed.

2. Protect Surroundings + Safe Work Zones – Adjacent park features are protected—curbs, edging, walls, drains, landscaping, benches, and nearby surfaces. We set up controlled work zones with barriers and signage to keep the area safe, organized, and clean throughout the project.

3. Deep Clean + Surface Preparation – We pressure wash and prep the substrate to remove buildup and open the surface as required for maximum bond. This step ensures the new system adheres properly and performs long-term in an outdoor environment exposed to weather and heavy use.

4. Repairs + Leveling for a Stable Base – We address cracks, spalls, hollow spots, damaged edges, and low areas to create a consistent foundation. Transitions to drains, thresholds, and adjoining surfaces are rebuilt for smoother flow, safer footing, and a cleaner finished appearance. Primer/adhesion steps (and moisture-mitigation if needed) are applied based on the substrate and conditions.

5. Install Rubber Surfacing System – The rubber surfacing system is hand-troweled to the specified thickness and texture for outdoor durability and day-to-day comfort. The finished surface provides confident slip resistance in wet conditions and a clean, uniform look designed to hold up to constant public use.

6. Detailing + Final Inspection + Turnover – We detail edges, transitions, drains, ramps/ADA areas, perimeters, and tie-ins so everything looks seamless and intentional. After cure protection, we complete a punch-list walk, cleanup, and turnover with care guidance, re-opening timeline, and any closeout documentation (photos/warranty as applicable).

Ramps, Stairs & Accessible Routes

Our experience with Carolina Surfacing exceeded all expectations. From the initial presentation to timely communication to the polite and skilled crew, the entire process was pleasant and smooth. As for the product - it’s hard to describe. Best bet is to view their website. The actual appearance is just like the pics. HIGHLY RECOMMEND this company.
