Why Rubber for Aquatic Centers?

Safer, cooler, better under bare feet

Textured, slip-resistant rubber helps reduce slips in constant splash zones and stays noticeably cooler than concrete. The slight cushion is kinder on joints and feels good during long practice days and meets.

Made for chlorinated, high-traffic environments

UV-stable color and chemical resistance stand up to sun, chlorinated water, and sunscreen. Cleanup is simple, and future touch-ups are localized—no full tear-outs—so facilities stay photo-ready.

Minimal downtime, phased installs

We can resurface many areas over existing substrates and schedule work in sections (even off-hours) to keep lanes, walk paths, and entries open. Installs are quiet and tidy—ideal for active facilities.

Before & After

Before
Hot, slick concrete or aging tile with hairline cracks, stained expansion joints, and hard edges that show wear—and show up in complaints and incident logs.

After
A seamless, slip-resistant surface that feels cooler, absorbs sound, and cleans quickly. Clear color zoning guides traffic, highlights edges/entries, and keeps the deck looking professional year-round.

How it's installed

1. Facility Walk + Operations Planning – We start with a site walk with facility leadership to confirm scope, measurements, drainage, and daily traffic patterns (entries, queue lines, locker rooms, concessions, splash areas). We align on a phasing plan so the center can stay operational when possible and so staff always knows what’s open, what’s closed, and what’s next.

2. Protection + Public Safety Setup  – We mask and protect coping, drains, walls, and nearby fixtures, then establish clear work zones with barriers and signage. Safe pedestrian routing is planned with staff so guests are directed appropriately and the work area stays controlled, clean, and compliant for a public environment.

3. Deep Clean + Surface Preparation – We pressure wash, degrease, and mechanically prep the substrate as required for maximum bond. This step removes buildup from high-use wet areas and opens the surface so the new system can adhere correctly and perform long-term.

4. Repairs + Water-Flow Corrections– We address cracks, spalls, hollow spots, damaged edges, and low areas to create a stable, consistent base. Transitions to drains, thresholds, and existing surfaces are rebuilt for smooth flow and safer footing. A primer/adhesion promoter is applied (and moisture-mitigation steps if needed) matched to the substrate and conditions.

5. Install Rubber Surfacing System – The rubber system is hand-troweled to the specified thickness and texture for wet, high-traffic conditions. The finished surface is slip-resistant, comfortable underfoot, and designed to stay cooler—supporting safer movement around pools, splash pads, and deck zones.

6. Detailing + Cure Protection + Turnover – We detail steps, ramps/ADA transitions, drain rings, skimmers, equipment pads, rail posts, control joints, perimeters, and tie-ins for a seamless, finished look. After cure protection, we complete a punch-list walk, full cleanup, and turnover with care guidance, re-opening timeline, and any closeout documentation (photos/warranty as applicable).

Carolina Surfacing is nothing short of Magic. They did an amazing job resurfacing my disastrous concrete pool deck. They were on time, did the job a full day faster than estimated, we’re professional and courteous, and the final product looks incredible.
